Congratulations to new Nurse Practitioner Kate!

Fantastic news, Kate Smallman, our Clinical Projects Manager, is now a Nurse Practitioner!

Kate has been a familiar face in the diabetes scene since she started with the then 'Diabetes Projects Trust' back in 2020 as part of a team with Olivia Hala (RN), working on our Lifestyle Programme.    Kate's experience had been considerable in the UK, and she brought many skills with her and has continued to share and develop those skills in the more than 20 years she's now worked with us.

Skills including the stubbornness and commitment to forge a career path where there might not have been an obvious one previously.  Kate first worked to gain NZ Nurse Specialist accreditation in her atypical nursing role, then over the years, Nurse Prescriber, and now Nurse Practitioner (more about Nurse Practitioners here).   And wherever Kate goes, she brings people along with her so there will be plenty of nurses in South Auckland in particular who have Kate to thank for encouragement and guidance.

So amazing achievement Kate, so much hard work was involved leading to very well deserved outcome. Huge congratulations from the team at Diabetes Foundation Aotearoa.
