RNZ Headline: "Patient organisations declare medicines crisis in New Zealand"
This headline (RNZ, 28 August 2023) referred to the launch of a campaign into which a massive amount of work has been done to co-ordinate efforts to act for those who are unable to access effective, proven medications and treatments, many of which are funded and available in other countries. This process has been lead by Malcolm Mulholland of Patient Voice Aotearoa supported by a range of community organisations, and the launch will be followed up by a Roadshow around the country over the next few months (see https://www.mylifematters.org.nz/ for dates).
Diabetes Foundation Aotearoa is proud to be behind this campaign and would like to encourage anyone who has concerns about the fairness of access to medication in this country to add their voices. Attached is the press release from the launch on Monday 28 August. Visit the website for dates of the Roadshow, information on what lead to this point where Aotearoa has fallen well behind in terms of what patients can access, what is proposed to bring about equity and fairness in the situation, and what action you can take in support.
